So....tonight, for the first time, I tried Soju. Soju is a Korean alcohol. It is not regulated so you can have one bottle with less alcohol content than the next bottle. We had a BBQ with our Korean counterparts from the ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Force) this evening. They introduced us to soju.
My new boss below!
Starting the grill and laying out the spread
One of the Korean sergeants. In Korean it's mandatory to serve in the military. His service commitment is up next month and he plans on going back to school.
Some of the crew. And below I think that was the hottest pepper I have ever eaten in my life. I literally broke out in a sweat.
Boss had to eat the beef on a leaf that one of the sergeants gave him. Apparently its a sign of friendship...or in my case...a trick. They hid ANOTHER pepper in the one they gave me. Luckily my mouth was already numb from the first one.
And finally! Soju!
They made marinated pork, mushrooms, eggplant and tons of other things. It was all delicious. We all had a shot of soju as a toast to our friendship.
They tried to play a game called Titanic, but it didn't quite work. The one who sinks the cup of soju has to drink it all.
Below...I lost a round of a finger-pointing game.
As the evening progressed we had a pull-up competition. The losing team of course had to drink the bowl. My team lost the first round and won the second!
And goodnight!
